Here’s our October newsletter, covering our trip to make Yakisugi at Abbey Timber and our platform developments.
We spent a day with Abbey Timber creating some “Yakisugi” cladding from Scottish larch. Yakisugi translates to “burned cedar” and is a traditional cladding material used in Japan. Charring the timber creates a beautiful protective layer against rot, fungi, weathering, and fire. We used the traditional flue method which funnelled the flames quickly up the boards and generated the high temperatures required to get the 3-4mm depth of char. Read more about the process on our blog here.
